Flag Retirement Ceremony

The City of Methuen will conduct its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Veterans Lot at Elmwood Cemetery at 10:30am on Friday, December 6. This date has been selected to commemorate the events of December 7, 1941, when the U.S. Navy Station at Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Empire of Japan.  The prescribed method of disposing of Flags that are no longer serviceable is by respectful burning.  At this ceremony, more than 5,000 Flags will be properly disposed.  The ceremony is open to the public and Flags to be disposed may be brought at that time.  Please contact the Veterans Office at (978) 983-8585 for more information.
