Methuen Transfer Station

Notice: Methuen Transfer Station at 50 Huntington Avenue is open to all Methuen residents for drop-off of recyclables and yard waste.  Recyclables include paper, cardboard, bottles, jugs, cans and glass.  Vehicle sticker is required for access and can be purchased at the Transfer Station scale house entrance.

Credits Cards/Debit Cards Preferred. Checks payable to City of Methuen. No Cash Accepted.

Transfer Station Extended Hours

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 7 am - 1:45 pm
  • Wednesday  7 am - 5:30 pm
  • Saturday: 8 am to 2:30 pm 
  • Sunday Closed

Additional Information

  • Methuen Senior citizens: Four (4) bulk items YEARLY total are allowed for curbside pickup or drop-off at Methuen Transfer Station. This is FREE OF CHARGE for Methuen Senior Citizens with proper identification and residency.
  • Construction debris: The Methuen Transfer Station will accept residential construction debris from Methuen residents. Commercial construction debris will be accepted as well but contractors must show proof that the material is from the City of Methuen and be Methuen residents as well.
  • Owning of property in Methuen: Individuals who own residential property in Methuen, but do not live in Methuen, must purchase a permit sticker to use the Transfer Station. You must provide two documents to confirm that you own a residential property in Methuen.
  • Propane tanks: 201b propane tanks can be brought to the Transfer Station during regular business hours, no hourly restrictions apply.
  • Mattresses/Boxsprings: Methuen Transfer Station is now accepting drop-offs of mattresses and box springs to be stored in the designated container on site for recycling. Effective October 2022, Methuen will no longer collect mattresses and box springs with the regular trash. Residents have the option of transfer station drop-off or scheduling curbside pickup with hauler EL. Harvey or with Methuen DPW. Visit the Curbside Mattress Recycling page for more information.
  • Fluorescent bulbs: Drop off for fluorescent bulbs is every Wednesday and Saturday ONLY.
  • Televisions:  Drop off for televisions is every Wednesday and Saturday ONLY.
  • Trash and/or recycling: Leaves and grass clippings are accepted in paper bags, not plastic or cardboard boxes.  Brush does not need to be bundled if you are taking to Transfer Station, only for curbside pick-up. The Transfer Station accepts all lengths, diameter is limited to 4". Curbside pick-up length is limited to 4' length and 4" diameter.

  • Minimum Fee for Residential Trash is $12.00, and cost is determined by weight thereafter.
  • Non-Commercial Vehicles - $20 per year
  • Pickup Trucks, Vans, etc. - $50 per year
  • Commercial Vehicles - $125 per year
  • Temporary Pass - $40 for 5 days
  • Senior Citizens, 62 and over, NO sticker required. I.D. only
